"Submit and present a project (or projects) at the Symposium
In short, what you have to do by Tuesday, April 9th is to submit THIS FORM. If and when you do so, please inform me. I like to know these things. I can help you fill out the form if you're not sure how to make your project hit the needed check boxes. Another note specifically relevant to this class: Do not avoid completing a STEAM project to avoid doing additional work. There is very little that needs to be done to get your project symposium-ready, and the little that does need to be done (writing an abstract, making your project "presentable" with a poster or something of the sort) we will all be doing no matter if your project is going to be a part of the STEAM symposium or not. And lastly, here are two other documents you can look at with more info on the STEAM symposium. They contain no additional info needed relevant for the April 9th deadline but you may want to look at them:

Also, sorry for the delays in getting your portfolio grade's back to you. I will have those done by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. As we discussed, I am gone this Friday, 3/15, in Albany, Georgia at an FRC robotics competition. There are two things for you to get done today:
A note on tools: I've left a note to the sub about the use of tools (amongst other things) in this class. If the substitute is fine with you using power tools I am fine with it, however, their judgement is final and please respect their decision. Subbing for a class can already be a stressful job at times and I don't wish to make my classroom an extra-stressful place. The only tools which I am personally veto-ing are the welding iron, table saw and lathe. I hope you all have a great day and a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday! Regarding our portfolio check, many of us our now theoretically completed with our first project in this course and so the rubric has additional criteria to account for the entirety of the Engineering Design Process and not just the steps up to planning. If you do not have a completed project, that is 100% ok. This will in no way be held against you, but you the rubric now has a greater emphasis on the creation aspects of your project to reflect the greater amount of time you have had to be physically working. The presentation will happen on Friday, March 8th. You will only need to present once as a group, not individual group members repeatedly presenting the same thing. BUT, everyone should participate in the presentation (you will notice this is a component on your rubric). The presentation can be informal and doesn't need to take more than 5 minutes, and can certainly be less; in the business world brevity and effectiveness in communication weighs more important than speaking for the sake of filling time. For this presentation you should have some sort of visual aid, but fortunately everyone of you already has this! This visual aid being your physical project as well as your online portfolio. If you wish to make a PowerPoint that is a great way to show evidence that you put some thought into your presentation but it is by no means necessary. Often times in an interview what makes a candidate stand out in an interview is not their GPA, work experience, or credentials, but it is the soft-skills you display during an interview and how you present yourself as being a potential employee who is genuinely interested in learning and growing in the company and not just someone who is showing up to the interview "just because." This is especially true for new hires right out of HS/College or who are looking for an internship as you will not have 10+ years of professional working experience and references. So, with this in mind, we are going to go through some of the preparatory research which you should do for any interview you have in your life.
