The end of the unit is coming! Take some time today to finish up whatever loose ends you have relevant to this unit. This may be:
IF you are all set on everything up to this point, then you can begin the summative assignment for this unit (details below). But please, make today's priority to make sure you get caught up and comfortable with your standing in this class, not to rush to starting the summative assignment. You will have time in class to work on the summative next week. Civil Engineering Summative Assignment For this unit's summative assignment, I will be banning taking a test as an option! If you still wish to take a test, HERE is one you can look at, reference and enjoy. Instead, you will have the two options listed below. Expect to finish by the end of day Tuesday but if more time is needed I can extend this.

Agenda for today
Surveying Adventure
ASCE Infrastructure Report
Today on our short day we are going to learn how to set up our surveying tools! We have 5 of them and they are fairly expensive and tricky to get working, so us taking a few moments to make sure we can handle them properly will contribute greatly to our success with these tomorrow.
Agenda for today:
Tomorrow: Surveying Adventure! When you finish your bridge documentation and test it (break it), upload your documentation to the link below as a PDF. If you are unsure how to convert your file to a pdf, ask me, it can be done easily from word, google-docs, powerpoint, paint, and all the other applications you know and love. The advantage of pdf file over a word document is that it is a smaller file, it can't be edited easily, its proportions don't get changed when viewed through different applications, and that it can be opened without a special application (someone without an office subscription can't view a word document).
When you go off into the business world and are looking for jobs, get into the habit of submitting formal written documents as a pdf rather than a word or other document. An example of this is a resume. Submitting a word document as a pdf can come across as tacky and the tabs and spacing on your resume can get messed up if the employer isn't using the same version of word as you. I digress :), click HERE to submit your documentation. We will be putting the finishing touches on our balsa wood bridges (bridge build phase II) today and then testing/destroying them on Monday! This will be a summative grade, and as promised that grade will be based on documentation of your project and work. Information on this documentation is below:
Documentation Needs for Bridge Building Competition
Goal: To build a balsa wood bridge across an 11” gap with the highest structural efficiency
Purpose: to practice designing with constraints and taking care to detail Rules & Guidelines
Goal: To build a popsicle bridge across a 12” gap with highest structural efficiency Purpose: to practice norms of project-based learning as well as to Rules & Guidelines
Today we are making spaghetti towers, with an emphasis on promoting positive learning environment with creativity and teamwork. Before we begin, I want us all to take a 10-15 minute personality Myers-Briggs personality test as well as talk very briefly about the five different forces which can break our spaghetti.
