This project will be done in pairs. Before beginning you need to find a partner, get your VERY OWN ARDUINO BOX (!!!!), brainstorm some possible project ideas, and then fill out the following google form: https://goo.gl/forms/AURr3JvhyULThhOs2
Looking for inspiration for your project? The great thing about microcontrollers is that they are everywhere and can do anything (not just turn a light/motor on/off), which means that the challenge for coming up with a project is an overload of options. A couple quick resources that could be helpful are listed below:
Starting next week (week of 11/12) we will be beginning our Arduino projects! This will be done in groups of two and you each will have an Arduino box which is yours and only yours for the duration of the project –meaning you won’t have to worry about another block’s students messing up your stuff. This project can be anything as long as it relates to the programming and microcontroller knowledge we have learned up to this point. While I don’t want to stifle your creativity with this process, I’ve provided a list below for some projects.
Project Ideas
After finishing and submitting the Arduino tutorial lessons in the blog post below, complete the following challenges as a right of passage before beginning the Arduino project:
Challenge #1: Use the Arduino’s ADC functions to print a digital reading from the voltmeter on the Serial Monitor Window WARNING: THE ARDUINO CAN ONLY INPUT A MAXIMUM VOLTAGE OF 5 VOTLS. ANYTHING BEYOND THIS WILL BURN THE CIRCUITRY Challenge #2: Use the Arduino’s PWM function to input to control the speed of a motor (or brightness of LED) through the Serial Monitor Window Challenge #3: put the ADC and PWM together; vary the speed of a motor by altering the “knob” (potentiometer) on the power supply goo.gl/forms/kawCqoUrfx18QAlz1We will now be learning basic programming in C/C++ through an online tutorial. I'm attaching our study guide below which we will go over on Monday. In addition to the info in the study guide, be prepared for how to level the transit level. The format for this will be: I will hand you the yellow transit-level box and a tripod, after which you will have to properly set up and level the transit-level. After I check off your set up you will then return the transit-level to its box and be 1/5th of your way to a 100% on the test!

What is surveying you ask? Surveying is the technique of determining the relative position of different features on, above or beneath the surface of the earth by means of direct or indirect measurements.

PSA: We may be going outside tomorrow (weather permitting) so bring a jacket tomorrow (on Thursday) Thursday 10/25 In groups of 4(ish) gather one (1) transit-level, one (1) surveying rod, one (1) tripod, and one (1) tape measure to complete the following surveying adventure. You only need to complete and turn in one per group, just be sure everyone's name is on it. surveyingadventure.docx As we talked about today (Friday), I will be gone in Athens on Monday, 10/22 and you will continue working on phase II of your bridge project in preparation for weight testing it on Tuesday. I think we should all be clear on what the expectations are for this, it is on YOU to help out your confused neighbor. To help you with this, here is a copy of the note I am leaving for the sub:
"Thank you for covering my class today. My 2nd, 3rd and 4th block classes are all in the middle of working on a bridge building project. They have already started this project and know their groups, what they are doing. I have also let them know that I will be out today and we have gone over my expectations for today so they should be mostly (hopefully!) self-managing and familiar with where to find any materials they need. A couple things to remind them of: · Their projects and material are where they left them last Friday (I have a 2nd/3rd/4th block note labelled on to their corresponding shelve) on the tables by the door. If they can please only touch their own project and not touch the materials for another class I would greatly appreciate it.
For round two of the bridge design project we will be doing much the same thing as before, except bigger and better! Taking into consideration what you learned from when your first bridge broke, you will complete the following bridge design project.
